man who escaped police custody friday after police arrested him for murder. today north las vegas police won't release any new details but say they hope he is still in the area. after doing our own search... fox5 discovered that police are pulling out all the stops to find this guy. every criminal case of his... from misdemeanor traffic citations to more serious charges.... are flagged with a warrant... to indicate his wanted status to any officer who finds him. one of the most recent charges stemmed from a july 25th incident. a manager at peterson motel and apartments shared surveillence video with us that shows what appears to be perez pulling out a gun and firing nine shots at the managing office. perez has been on the run since friday. north las vegas police say perez twisted his handcuffs until they broke and then walked out of an interview room, and stole a truck to get away.

information that can help police find perez, call crimestoppers at 702-385-55-55. remember, police say perez is dangerous, so call them instead of approaching him. i-t-t technical institute suddenly shut its doors for good this morning. the national for- profit school was facing big penalties from the federal government. it had more than 400 students in the las vegas area... fox5's eric hilt spoke to some of those students, eric how are they reacting to this sudden closure? students i spoke withai angry and wondering what they can do next... they told me they took out tens of thousands of dollars in student loans and now won't have a degree to show for it. students told me they received a email from the school at 4:00 this morning. it read that the school was closing because of the penelties sent down from the department of education -- which banned the school from accepting students using federal financial aid, and forced it to pay $150 million dollars as insurance for

the email left students like john collins jr., who was months away from graduation and had taken out 50-thousand dollars worth of loans, frustrated. "it's horrible, i mean i just dont have the words to describe how, the way i feel right now. i put my all into bettering myself and for it to just end...it's just a terrible ending" workers at other information and technology schools say those fines were because the school was not in compliance with standards -- and students were not getting the certifications they needed to find jobs after graduation coming up on at 5:00 hear what resources are out there for the hundreds former itt tech students who are now wondering what's next, and how some could have their student loans deferred. we have seen a few other schools shut

"gold star school of gaming" closed last month, and students say they had no warning. and hundreds of cosmetology students were out of luck back in february, when two "marinello school of beauty" locations closed. 25 million dollars... that's the current tab on ads already bought in nevada's senate race. that's according to ad buying sources tracking commercials in the heated race. more than 13- million dollars comes from groups for republican congressman joe heck-- while more 11- million was spent on ads in support of democrate catherine cortez masto. the seat, being vacated by senator harry reid, could determine which party controls the senate as a whole. the agencies say outside groups are withholding money from donald trump to focus resources on key senate races. toss to weather

years since three national guardsmen were killed in a carson city mass shooting. nevada soldiers in kuwait held a memorial run to honor them today. lieutenant colonel heath kelly, master sergeant colonel heath kelly, master sergeant christian riege and sergeant miranda mcelhiney were killed in the 20-11 attack. sergeant major james richardson says officers played amazing grace as a farewell to the soldier before the runners took off. " it was an opportunity to kind of bring everybody together and common background to pay tribute to some wonderful soldiers who lost their lives in such a senseless way, and it's good for us to do something like that out here this far away from home." more than 200 soliders and civilians participated in the kuwait run that shadows a carson city run held every year. the 20-11 shooting killed one other civilian and

morning. the haka is a tradition war cry and challenge of sorts used to intimidate the opposing team. it's done before and sometimes after a big game. it was started by the new zealand native football team in the late 1800's. on friday night, the liberty patriots upset westlake texas -- the top ranked team in the lonestar state -- with a 21 - 14 victory. liberty is looking to eventually beat bishop gorman locally and the liberty coach says the only way that'll happen is if his team plays the best of the best.

here's a look at some of your national headlines. a former stanford swimmer is now officially registered as a sex offender. this is the page for "brock turner" on the ohio offender data base. he served three months out of a six month sentence, after he was convicted of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman. critics felt turner deserved a lengthier punishment. turner is required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. he is also serving three years of supervised probation. an anchor woman will receive a 20 million dollar settlement from fox... after suing former c-e-o roger ailes for sexual harrassment. 21st century fox says it apologizes for gretchen carlson not being treated with respect. ailes resigned from fox in july, and he will pay part of the settlement. he denies the sexual harrassment claims. other woman have accused ailes of sexual harrassment and retaliation. fox is in talks with these women as well. and right after the settlement

people visiting dubai can explore a lush tropical rainforest... but they'll have to go inside a luxury hotel first. take a look at these pictures from dubai's latest mega project. this tropical rainforest is being built in the upcoming "rosemont hotel"... under hilton's luxury brand. the rainforest will be more than 75 thousand square feet. it will include adventure trails, a sandless beach, a splash pool, waterfalls, and a rainforest cafe. the complex will consist of two 53-story towers -- and will welcome its first guests in 2018. uber is launching a food delivery service across the valley this week. the service runs through an app called "uber eats." more than 150 restaurants around the valley are participating in the delivery service.

wonders for a child going through a major medical procedure by distracting them. kim hutcherson reports. for years -- parents have known smart devices help keep their children occupied... now it seems there could be a medical application for that. kids who are about to have surgery might be helped, by their i-pads! french researchers say playing games like "angry birds" worked just as well as sedatives, to make kids less anxious right before an operation. the small study looked at one- hundred and twelve children bet four-and-10 years old. the kids were randomly assigned to either take a sedative or play with an i-pad - twenty minutes before receiving anesthesia. researchers found the tablets worked just as well to reduce stress as did medication. and the study didn't just show the i-pads were helpful for the young ones... the devices apparently helped to relax the kids' parents too. this isn't the first study to suggest that technological distraction could be a way to reduce anxiety.

honor student at itt technical institute... he had taken out 50-thousand dollars in student loans to go to the school, and was planning to graduate in just a few months. "i needed to find out how much potential i had and i wanted to go further." but this morning he woke up to this email... itt tech was shutting down immediately. john wouldn't be getting a diploma. "shocked. very shocked. three and a half years of studying and putting my all into my all into my education to try to better and to find out through an email that my school is closed." "john came by the campus to try and get more information, but today the doors -- are locked" "no representatives to talk to, no way of getting any kind of information from the school, you know i have no idea what to do next. just trying to figure it out" in the email to students, itt tech said it was forced to close because of sanctions put on the school by the department of education. it wouldnt let the school accept students who use federal aid, and forced it to pay an additional $150 million dollars as
